Post Your Research Questions Here!

THE ASSIGNMENT: Share your favorite research question as a comment below. Make sure to include your name. ALL Anonymous posts will be deleted and will not receive credit for this assignment.

In addition to posting your question, I also want you to read through all of your classmates' questions. Ask yourself: Besides my own observations, how are my classmates making connections between the concepts we've discussed in class (such as inquiry, rhetorical reading, revision, etc.) and their own interests? How are their questions different/similar to mine?

Finally, after you've read through each question carefully, respond to AT LEAST one of the questions that most interests you. Be respectful, first and foremost; then, let your classmate know what you liked about their research question, and how their question is similar/different to your own.

DEADLINES: please have your question posted NO LATER than TONIGHT by 10pm. ALL responses to questions should be posted by 5pm on Friday 2/21, no exceptions.

    1. Hi Kris,

Your question needs some precision as it is very broad at the moment. I would revolve your question around procrastination within your major, which would allow you to inspect that particular construct within that space. Your question would then read along these lines: How does procrastination affect _____ majors, and what are some of the strategies to these same majors can develop to overcome this particular obstacle?

    1. Is an interesting question, it would be good to know if writer's block leeps nurses from doing thei job. It is similar to my question in the way that we both talk about nursing

    2. Hi Stephany,

I'm intrigued by the notion that writer's block, or elements of this particular construct, can also affect nurses within their discourse. Rose discusses writer's block for writers, but how do you think this construct manifests itself for nurses within their profession? You need to find out what kind of writing nurses do on an everyday basis, first and foremost. You could also focus on elements of writing, like critical thinking, and develop your question along those lines. Something like this: What is the role of critical thinking in the nursing field, and how does this skill impact success in that field?

  4. If you are able to connect the claim of your construct to the claim of what your major represents, how would you explain the related theme represented in both of your claims?

    1. Interesting question. You ask a specific question not just about your major or construct but about all of our majors and constructs. Any of us can answer this question in our stage 3 plan and it will help us get it done.

    2. Hi Michaela,

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your question. What is the construct you are referring to? What about your major? How are you attempting to explore your chosen construct within your major?

    1. Hi Ezalea,

Good start, but let's refine this further. Let's revolve your question around Chemistry students and study skills, and then add a touch of writer's block. Develop your research question along these lines: What are some of the best study skills UTPA chemistry students can adopt in order to be successful? What are some of the bad habits that UTPA chemistry students usually turn to which keep them from successfully passing their courses?

    1. Hi Liz,

This is the question I suggested, but I would like for you to make it your own. Are you interested in a particular learning disability? If so, focus on that disability, as well as the specific group of students (those from Mexico, from Korea, etc.) to try and specify your question as much as possible. This will help you strategize the research that is to follow.

  7. Is being a bilingual student an advantage or disadvantage in nursing?

    1. I like this question a lot, spacialy because we come from a place where english and spanish are quite dominant, but I think mostly everyone would know there is more an advantage when you talk two languages, like the saying "Una persona que habla dos idiomas vale por dos". It will be very interesting to find the disadvantages. A person who wants to get ahead of the game, and probably get a job in the nursing field, would probably read this.

    2. I agree with Stephany, this is a good and interesting question. knowing two languages can be an advantage for nurses especially when searching for a job, but it would be interesting to know the disadvantages.

    3. Hi Kenia,

I like this question, but rewrite it along these lines: what are the advantages/disadvantages of bilingualism in the nursing field? How does this impact the success of nursing students at UTPA, as well as in South Texas?

    1. Hi Bertha,

Interesting that you are attempting to look at procrastination as an advantageous skill set. Rework your question along these lines: What are the advantages/disadvantages of procrastination for (your major)? At UTPA, how do (your major) students deal with procrastination, and how can procrastination help/hinder their path toward success?

    1. This is in an interesting question. A lot of times we don't think about that when we think about our majors. Even though I am in a different major I'm going to take a class that is going to teach me what kind of writing is done in my field. And even though my research question is different, it still ties to my construct of learning because we are going to have to learn how to write in a specific way in our field.

    2. Hi Liz,

I would push this further. Develop your question along these lines: What kind of writing is important in the business field, and what strategies should UTPA students develop in order to succeed in this field?
